VenturePin ("we", "us", "our") provides mapping and route features via our website and applications. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use VenturePin.

We collect information you provide directly to us and information we obtain automatically when you use our service:
Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address, display name, and user ID when you create an account or sign in (e.g., with Google authentication)
- User-Generated Content: Map points, routes, names, descriptions, photos, and other files you upload or create
- Communications: Messages you send to us for support or feedback
Information We Collect Automatically
- Location Data: Your device's location when you choose to share it or record routes. Background location access is only used during active route recording and automatically stops when recording ends
- Usage Information: How you interact with our service, features used, and time spent on the platform
- Device Information: Browser type, device type, operating system, IP address, and other technical identifiers for security and functionality
- Log Data: Server logs, error reports, and performance data to maintain service reliability
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
How we use information
- Provide core features (map display, route recording, saving and syncing your content).
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues.
- Communicate service updates and changes.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
We process data to perform our contract with you (provide the service), with your consent (e.g., location access), and for legitimate interests (security and reliability). Where applicable, you can withdraw consent in your device settings.
Sharing
- Service providers: We use third parties like hosting, storage, authentication, mapping, and weather providers to operate the service (see “Third-Party Services” below).
- Legal: We may share information to comply with law or protect rights and safety.
Third-Party Services
To deliver maps, search, weather overlays, and account features we call external APIs. When you use these features, the providers may receive technical information such as your IP address, device/browser details, and the map tiles or query parameters needed to fulfil the request. We only send the minimum information required and we never sell your personal data. Active integrations include:
- Google Maps Platform (Maps JavaScript API, Street View, Firebase Authentication, Firestore). Google provides the Google Satellite basemap and Street View imagery. Usage is governed by Google’s Maps Platform Terms and Privacy Policy.
- OpenWeather (forecast, current conditions, radar and wind overlays). Weather tiles and API responses are provided under OpenWeather’s Privacy Policy and Terms. We display attribution when these layers are active.
- USGS (U.S. Geological Survey imagery, topo, hillshade, hydro overlays). These tiles are public-domain open data; USGS requests attribution.
- OpenStreetMap & OpenTopoMap community tiles (OpenStreetTopo, OpenStreetToner, OpenStreetDark). Tile requests go directly to their volunteer-run servers and are subject to the OpenStreetMap Tile Usage Policy and OpenTopoMap terms.
- MapTiler (forward geocoding for the search feature). Requests follow MapTiler’s Terms of Service.
- Open-Elevation (optional elevation lookup for routes). This open API receives latitude/longitude pairs to calculate elevation.
We review partner documentation periodically; if we add or remove providers we will update this list. Please refer to the linked policies for details on how those providers process data.
Data retention
We retain your content and account data while your account is active. You can delete content at any time. When you delete your account, we delete your user profile and associated user data as described in the app. Some logs may be retained for a limited period for security and legal compliance.
Your choices and rights
- Access & delete: You can view and delete your content. You can delete your account in-app.
- Location: You can disable location permissions at any time in device settings.
- Contact: Reach out to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable by law.
International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. We use reputable providers with appropriate safeguards.
Children
VenturePin is not directed to children under 13 (or the age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the latest version here and update the “Last updated” date.
